Clinical Studies of Aminodeoxykanamycin in the Field of Internal Medicine

Abstract
|
|
|
Aminodeoxykanamycin (2-amino-2-deoxy-kanamycin) is a new antibiotic produced from streptomyces kananayceticus, with low toxicity and strong antibacterial activity.
The present authors have measured the blood concentration of the antibiotic, and applied´the agent as an injection to general infectious diseases in the field of internal medicine as well as to typhoid fever. Aminodeoxykanamycin was given to the following 25 patients, 5 with acute pneumonia, 5 with urinary tract infections, 4 with acute tonsillitis, 4 with bronchitis, 4 with typoid foyer, 2 with pulmonary tuberculosis, and one with cerebral hemorrhage.
Aminodeoxykanamycin was given intramuscular only in doses of 200-600 mg daily. Excellent and good clinical effect were obtained in 52 percent and 36 percent respectively. Effectiveness rate being 88 percent. Side effects of aminodeoxykanamycin were not observed- except dizziness in two cases. No functional abnormalities of liver, kidney, and blood picture were showed.
